Masane and Rihoko's relationship is the best thing about Witchblade. It makes a show that so easily could have been a mindless T&A-heavy bore sweet and heartbreaking, and it really gives the show its meaning. Everything that Masane does, including wielding the Witchblade, is for Rihoko - to give her a better life, and to protect her. Even if Masane is a bit clueless and selfish, she truly loves Rihoko, and wants what is best for her so much that she is willing to sacrifice anything. And Rihoko's devotion to her mother is absolute - in a way, Rihoko has a motherly role, too, because she wants to take care of Masane, and is also willing to sacrifice for her to be happy. The love between the two of them is something you can really feel as the series progresses, and it makes for the sweetest, cutest, funniest, and saddest moments of the show.
