Season Eight opens with Buffy and a squad of her Slayers dropping in on an abandoned church
where demons are supposedly holding a group of humans hostage. She explains that after
Willow's work with the Slayers in Sunnydale, there are now almost 1,800 Slayers in the
world, 500 of which are working with Buffy and her friends, seperated into 10 different
squads, including 2 Buffy decoys - one in Rome, partying and dating the Immortal (Andrew's
idea), and one "literally" underground somewhere. In the present, Buffy and her Slayers
break into the church, with the help of a group of Slayers back at their high-tech HQ in
a castle in Scotland, who keep track of the action (of Buffy's group and others elsewhere
in the world) via cameras attatched to the Slayers' helmets. Xander runs the group at
HQ, and acts as Buffy's "Watcher".Back at the Church, Buffy and her Slayers wipe out the demons, and upon examining their (dead) hostages, find that they might not have been hostages at all. Buffy sends a photo of an odd sybol carved into their chests to Giles for further research. Buffy returns to her HQ, and reluctantly spends time with Dawn, who has literally been transformed into a giant, after having sex with a demon called a "Thrisewise". She won't even speak much to Buffy or anyone else about the incident, and they are waiting for Willow to come and magick her back to normal size. After speaking with Dawn, Buffy reflects on how much she misses her home, her mom, and her life in Sunnydale. And sex.
In a helicopter flying over the crater formerly known as Sunnydale, two government men discuss Buffy and her Slayers. The government considers Buffy and her Slayers to be terrorists, and are investigating the crater for information about what happened. In the crater, they find two survivors - a girl and her boyfriend (implied to be a hideous demon of some sort) - and keep them in a hidden research lab. The government organization appears to be aware of magic, and the scientists explain to the General from the helicopter that the girl and her boyfriend are very willing to help them take down Buffy, in return for full immunity and...cheese. The General looks in to the girl's holding room to find a very alive, vengeful, and crazy-looking Amy.
