Buffy the Vampire Slayer?
Ah, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. If you don't know what BtVS was about, you probably shouldn't be here, but just in case... Possibly the best show ever on TV, Buffy was a televison show created by Joss Whedon (based on his script for the 1992 movie) that spanned seven seasons, and followed the lives of Slayer Buffy ("one girl in all the world, chosen to stand against vampires and demons", etc.) and her friends through high school, college, and beyond, as they dealt with life on the Hellmouth, various supernatural troubles, and a few apocalypses...

Season Eight
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight is the canon continuation of the BtVS series, in comic-book form! Published by Dark Horse, and produced by Joss Whedon himself (who also wrote the first arc), it picks up about a year and a half after the end of season seven, in a world in which there are about 1,800 Slayers, 500 of whom work with Buffy and the rest of the Scooby gang in ten different squads stationed all over the world. After the collapse of the Hellmouth in Sunnydale and the massive and rather obvious mess it left (giant crater, anyone?), Buffy and her Slayers are considered by the government to be terrorists, and are being sought after by a secret military organization (who are aware of the existance of magic, demons, etc).

According to various interviews, the Season Eight series is set for at least fifty issues, possibly more, and will be comprised of different arcs featuring different characters in different locations. The first arc, The Long Way Home focuses on Buffy, Xander, Dawn, and their Slayer squad in Scotland, and will span the first four issues. Following these issues will be a stand-alone story about one of Buffy's decoys, called The Chain, which will then be followed by a four-issue long arc featuring Faith, which is set in England (and written by Brian K. Vaughan). Sometime after that, there will be an arc set in Tokyo (which should be more related to the overall storyline), written by Drew Goddard.

Joss promises the return of most of BtVS' most popular characters throughout the series, including Spike, Angel, some of the more memorable Potentials from season seven, possibly Riley & wife, and somehow, even Anya.
